Week 3, Day 5 – Motivating Your Teens

by StephBuckwalter on June 24, 2011

This part gets a little tricky. Life is busier so they may think they don’t have time for chores. But there is so much more to motivate them. Work before play. Work before social life.

Granted some kids have jobs, sports, and heavy school loads. You may need to cut back on the daily stuff if they do a lot out of the house, but try to leave in a once-a-week job like bathrooms, laundry, lawn care, or some deep cleaning. Contributing to family life is important. It keeps them grounded as they begin to sprout their wings.

Spent an hour sorting through plastic bins full of old tax and business info.

Spent an hour cleaning mildew out of the shower. Used borax for the first time. It was great–did the job and no fumes.

Went thru and wiped down kitchen cabinets and also organized the kids’ craft paints-an hour total. Hadn’t thought of using borax in the shower-I’ll have to look into that.

Totally forgot to post. Spent 30 minutes on the huge pile in my room. That will be another month’s challenge, I am sure.

Spent 30 minutes shredding old receipts to clear out my desk drawer so I can put files I actually use in that spot!

Thanks for the tip about Borax!
