Day 5 – Do Something Light Today

by StephBuckwalter on June 10, 2011

Do something light and fun today (if there is such a thing in housecleaning) in preparation for doing a heavier project over the weekend.

I planned to spend about 30 minutes sorting through some plastic boxes full of paper and documents. An hour later I realized this project is way bigger than I imagined with a lot of shredding involved. So I quit for the day. – 1 hour

Spent 15 more minutes in the living room today. I can see the floor! Tomorrow I am going to bust this out for my company on Sunday.

I just spent 30 minutes on the Mount of Laundry…

Spent 30 minutes putting away supplies from VBS this week. Tomorrow to sort through 7 more bins of VBS stuff.

I spent 1.5 hours going through email. I found a few messages that needed a response, so that was beneficial. After seeing all the unread mail and which lists it was from, I am now convinced that I need to read as it comes in and delete as I go. One trick I use when doing this exercise is to sort by who it is from. That way, I can see everything from one person/list at a time and I can delete whole swathes of email at once.

It’s Saturday 8.30 am in my time zone, and the washing machine is whirring away on my second load for today. Toy room looks a lot better, and I’m hoping it can stay that way!
I’ve already spent an hour decluttering my inbox, so I’m glad that’s out of the way. It’s a very warm day, expected temperatures are around 41C and that’s in the shade. Sun is out in full strength, and my laundry will be dry in about 30 minutes. Then the next step is sorting it all out and putting it away, and this is a chore that my 2 older ones help with.
I see what you mean Steph, about grouping emails by sender. Takes hours off computer time. Great!
Now, I will finish my coffee, and get on with my deep-down weekly kitchen clean-up.
Your mentoring is helping me keep up with the to-do list!

While running errands today, I picked up some more Murphy Oil Soap and a sponge mop to tackle my kitchen walls and ceiling. It works great on a lot of different surfaces. Before dinner I spent 20 minutes removing everything from the walls in the kitchen.

I never thought of that trick. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m going to try that the next time I have a few moments.

Did more cleaning and made two kinds of cheese. Still have tons more to make since my fridge is still full of goats milk. Did lots of laundry. That pretty much took all day. I got to bed around 1 am.

Spent 30 minutes filing away paid bills and various paperwork. This is definitely something that I neglect until it is falling off the table and all over the floor. I’m going to try to implement the touch it only once rule this summer. Maybe if I make it a habit, then I won’t have so much to do at one time.
